Kond: Yerevan's oldest district, once home to Persian and Armenian nobility, is a true urban labyrinth. Here, the lines between abandoned and inhabited buildings often blur, as centuries of history intermingle and unconventional street art adds a striking contrast. Anyone spending time in Yerevan, whether a resident or a weekend visitor, should explore this captivating neighborhood. Its hidden entrances, often accessed by narrow stairs, make it a place that's nearly impossible to stumble upon by chance.
To simply take a walk around Kond is cool, to hear about its history, even cooler, and to finish the tour by drinking tea with the local inhabitants, invaluable.
Taking a stroll through Kond is intriguing, learning about its history is even more captivating, but finishing the tour with a cup of tea shared with local residents is truly priceless.
That's what we do!
By the late 19th century, this house was owned by the city's mayor. Today, it is home to the fourth generation of a single family, who have graciously invited us into their home. They’ve set up a table in their cellar, offering homemade compote and Armenian tea. With historical stories, antiques, and vintage furnishings all around, it feels like stepping into a time machine, allowing us to momentarily forget the chaos of the 21st century.
A pleasant factor is the convenient location of Kond, as after the excursion it's possible to continue the day by going to Saryan Street, once again stepping into the vibrant window of the 21st century, at its finest.
